Question 886283: a collection of dimes and quarters has a total value of five dollars and contains 29 coins. How many of each coin are there in the collection? Found 2 solutions by JulietG, richwmiller:Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If all 29 were quarters, the total would be 29 * .25 = $7.25
The actual total is $5.00
$7.25 - $5.00 = $2.25
The difference between a quarter and a dime is .15
$2.25 / .15 = 15
There are (15) dimes = $1.50
If there are 29 coins and 15 are dimes, there are 14 quarters.
14 quarters = $3.50
$3.50 + $1.50 = $5.00
