SOLUTION: Solve for x
OO
E 8x^(5n) = 17
n=1
I get confused with the 5n
I started out by taking out the 8 and putting it in front of the E and then dividing both sides by 8.

Log On
I get confused with the 5n
I started out by taking out the 8 and putting it in front of the E and then dividing both sides by 8.
I was left with x^5n = 17/8
I then used the formula a/(1-r) to try to solve for x
i came up with x^5/(1-x^5)=17/8
I cross-multiplied and came up with 17-17x^5 = 8x^5 which reduced to 17/25 = x^5
So is my answer really (17/25)^(1/5)? Answer by josgarithmetic(39617) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Some effort was needed to figure what you are asking.
You want the sum of from n=1 to n approaching infinity, is equal to 17.
