You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Distance = Rate x Time
From Palm Beach to Washington:
900 miles = 450 MPH x Time
900/450 = 2 hrs
From Washington back to Pam Beach:
900 miles = 300 MPH x Time
900/300 = 3 hrs
Total distance = 1800 miles (900 x 2)
Total time = 5 hours (2 hrs there, 3 hrs back)
So...
1800/5 = 360 MPH

On a 900-mile trip between Palm Beach and Washington, a plane averaged 450 miles per hour. On the return trip, the plane averaged 300 miles per hour. What was the average rate of speed for tge round trip, in miles per hour?
-----------
Avg speed of a round trip is similar to parallel flows.
---
Avg = 2*450*300/(450 + 300) = 270000/750
Avg = 360 mi/hr
----------
The distance does not matter.
