More information is needed. What constitutes a failing grade? If the mean is 53 and 59 is a failing grade, it's possible that they ALL failed.
32 students * 53 mean = 1696 total points.
Those points can be distributed in ANY manner as long as they come up with the total.
It could be that 10 students got 100 on the exam, and the rest all failed.
Or maybe everyone got 53.
Likely somewhere between, but we don't have enough information to solve this.
