Use formula for time time=distance%2Frate
Since each train travels for the same time, we'll set them equal to each other.
rate for E train = x
rate for A train = (x-12) since it travels 12mph slower.
your equation
230%2F%28x-12%29=290%2Fx
cross multiply
230x=290(x-12)
230x=-290x-3480
-60x=-3480
x=58
So, rate for E train is 58mph and since the A train is 12mph slower, its rate is 46mph.
