Question 880282: Fraction
I am trying to solve:
If there are 35 students, and 13 are men. What fraction of the students in the class are men?
I have tried:
13 over 35-13= 13 over 22....reduce 1x13= 13 and 2x11= 22 so reducing gives me 1/2 or 13/11.
I'm stuck because I know it can't possibly be 1/2 as there is 13 men and 22 women. I can't make sense of it.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You are correct! it is 13 over 35! And it can't be reduced as they have no common factor.
13%2F35

Think of it this way...
If you got 15 marks out of 20 in a test you would write it as 15%2F20
(Because you scored 15 out a total of 20)

There are 13 male students out of a total of 35 students
so we write 13%2F35

The top number of the fraction (numerator) is the number you have and the bottom number of the fraction (denominator) is always the total number of people, pieces, things etc.
