You can put this solution on YOUR website!
In a town election, the winning candidate had 220 more votes than the loser. If 810 votes were cast in all, how many votes did each candidate recieve?
------------
Let the loser's number of votes be "x".
The winner's number = x+220
-------------
EQUATION:
x+x+220 = 810
2x= 590
x= 295 (loser's number of votes)
x+220= 515 (winner's number of votes)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the number of votes polled by the losing candidate be x
So number os votes for the winning candidate = x+220
Total votes = 810
==> x + x + 220 = 810
==> 2x + 220 = 810
==> 2x = 810 - 220
==> 2x = 590
==> x = 590/2
==> x = 295
Thus the losing candidate polled 295 votes and the winning candidate polled =
295 + 220
= 515
Good Luck!!!
