You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the width of the rectangular swimming pool be x
so, length will be 2x.
Area of walkway = area of outer rectangle - area of inner rectangle
area of outer rectangle =+%28x%2B4%29%282x%2B4%29=+2x%5E2+%2B+12x+%2B+16
area of inner rectangle = +x%2A2x+=+2x%5E2
Area of walkway =+%282x%5E2+%2B+12x+%2B16%29+-%282x%5E2%29
After simplification ,you will get
Area of walkway = 12x+%2B+16
Given, area of walkway = 196
12x +16 =196
subtract 16 from both sides, you will get
12x= 180
divide by 12
x=15 ft.
Answer: width = 15 ft.; length = 30 ft.
