: How many litres of water must be added to 50 L of a 30% acid solution in order to produce a 20% acid solution? This question is from textbook
You can put this solution on YOUR website! How many litres of water must be added to 50 L of a 30% acid solution in order to produce a 20% acid solution?
----------------
Amt of 30% solution = 50 L; amt of active ingredient = 0.30*50 = 15 L
------------------
Amt of water added = x L ; amt of active ingredient = 0x = 0
-------------------------
Amt of 20% solution = (50+x) L; amt of active ingredient = 0.2(50+x) = 10+0.2x L
----------------------------
EQUATION:
active + active = active
15 + 0 = 10 + 0.2x
5 = 0.2x
x= 25 L (amount of water that must be added)
