A + B = 35
A = B + 1 (because they are consecutive)
Substitute the value of A from the second equation into the first.
(B+1) + B = 35
2B + 1 = 35
Subtract 1 from each side
2B = 34
Divide each side by 2
B = 17
If B is 17, then A is 18.
Let's prove.
18 + 17 = 35
35 = 35
