90 degree angle is at the base of the building.
your ladder is the hypotenuse of the right triangle formed.
call that x.
your equation is cos(65) = adj/hyp = 8/x
start with:
cos(65) = 8/x
multiply both sides of this eqauation by x and divide both sides of this equation by 65 to get:
x = 8/cos(65)
make sure your calculator is in degree mode and solve using your calculator.
you will get x = 18.9296 feet which rounds to 19 feet.
