right angled triangle --> use Pythagoras. Find the height of the ladder in the first instance then subtract 3 from that answer and recalculate the floor distance using that new height remembering that the hypotenuse is fixed at 10.

The first part is a really quick calculation because you have the classic 3,4,5 Pythagorean sides scaled up--> 6,8,10
