Step 1) Draw a number line. Make sure the values -10 to +10 are labeled on it.
Step 2) Start at +5. So you are 5 units to the right of 0.
Step 3) Move to the right 6 spaces to land on +11. This is because +5 - (-6) is really the same as +5 + 6. The two negatives cancel to make a positive.
