Question 875354: There are 7 girls and six boys in a class. Three of the girls and two of the boys have brown eyes. If a student is chosen at random, what's the probability of choosing a brown-eyed student or a girl? Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source):
So there are 5+7 = 12 people who are either a girl or have brown eyes...BUT...we have to subtract out 3 because there are 3 girls who have brown eyes (they get counted twice)
So there are really 5+7-3 = 12-3 = 9 people who are either a girl or have brown eyes
