You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a jeweler has bars of 18 carat gold and 12 carat gold. how much of each must be melted together to obtain a bar of 16 carat gold ,weighing 120 g?it is given that pure gold is 24 carat.
Let X gran 18 carat gold and Y gram !2 carat gold melt
as per given conditions
18x/24 + 12y/24 = 120(16/24) grams convert gold in to (carat value/24)
3x/4+y/2 = 80 (1)
3x+2y/4= 80 by simplify
3X +2Y =320 (1)
X + Y =120 (2) by multiplying equation 2 by 2 and subtraction
3X +2Y =320 (1)
2X + 2Y =240 (2)
X= 80 grams
Y=40 grams Answer
