x%28x%2B2%29+=+3%5E1
x%5E2%2B2x+=+3
x%5E2%2B2x-3=0
%28x%2B3%29%28x-1%29=0
x = {-3, 1}
Throw out the -3 solution (extraneous) leaving
x = 1
