x+3y=7 or x=7-3y now we replace x in the second equation by(7-3y) & solve for y
2(7-3y)-3y=8
14-6y-3y=8
-9y=8-14
-9y=-6
y=-6/-9
y=2/3 answer.
x=7-3*2/3
x=7-6/3
x=7-2
x=5 answer.
