Question 872692: An isosceles triangle has two sides of equal length. The third side is 7 less than twice the length of one of the other sides. If the perimeter of the triangle is 44 cm, what is the length of the third side?
A. 9.25 cm
B. 9.7 cm
C. 12.75 cm
D. 18.5 cm Answer by indra89811(24) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let the length of two equal sides=x
Third side=2x-7---(1)
Perimeter=Sum of all sides
By question,
x+x+2x-7=44
4x-7=44
Adding 7 on both sides,
4x=44+7
4x=51
x=51/4 = 12.75
Plugging in x=12.75 in equation (1), we get the third side = 2(12.75)-7=18.5 cm
Ans: 18.5 cm
