Question 87129: Ok the problem is functions where the instructions say find f(-3), f(0), f(5)
where f(a)=3/4a -1. Im terrible with fractions. I need help in how to understand the solutions which in the back of the book have:
-13/4,-1,11/4. i get the answer for f(0) but what about the others. help please. im terrible with fractions.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
+f%28a%29+=+%28%283a%29%2F4%29+-+1+

so when a=-3 we get:
+f%28a%29+=+%28%283%28-3%29%29%2F4%29+-+1+
+f%28a%29+=+%28%28-9%29%2F4%29+-+1+

so now... lets write the 1 as quarters seeing as we have quarters in -9/4. One is 4 quarters --> 4/4 so we get:
+f%28a%29+=+%28%28-9%29%2F4%29+-+%284%2F4%29+

so this says -9 quarters -another 4 quarters... that is -13 quarters, written as +%28-13%29%2F4+.

Hope this helps

cheers
