You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a boat heads upstream a distance of 30 miles on the mississippi river, whose currents is running at 5 miles per hour. if the trip back an hour less, what was the speed of the boat in still water? give the answer rounded to two decimal places, if necessary
let speed of Boat is X km per hours
down stream speed will be X+5 miles per hours
up stream speed will be X-5 miles per hours
time =distance/ speed
time taken up stream = 30/x-5
time taken down stream =30/X+5
difference in time will be =30/X-5 -30/X+5
1=30(X+5-X+5)/x^2-25
X^2-25=300
X^2=300+25=325
x^2=325
X= 18.027 miles per hours
