Question 869330: Find the slope, y-intercept, and the x-intercept ofbthe line that passes through the points: (3, 2) and (6, -4). Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
slope m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
( -4 - 2 )/( 6 - 3 )
( -6 / 3 )
m= - 1/ 2
The required line passes through both the points. So we select one point and plug it with the slope
Plug value of the slope and point ( 3 , 2 ) in
Y = m x + b
2.00 = - 1/2 * 3 + b
2.00 = -1 1/2 + b
b= 2 + 1 1/2
b= 3 1/ 2
So the equation will be
Y = - 1/2 x + 7/2
slope = -1/2
7/2 is the Y intercept
For X intercept Y=0
1/2 x =7/2
X intercept = 7
