Question 869315: A rowing team rowed 60 miles while going with current in the same amount of time as it took to row 10 miles going against the current. The rate of the current was 5 miles per hour. Find the rate of the rowing team in still water. Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
Distance against current 10
Distance with current 60
Time = same equate the time against with time with current
t=d/r
10 /(x- 6 )= 60 /(x+ 6 )
10 *(x+ 6 )= 60 *(x- 6 )
10 x + 60 = 60 x -360
10 x -60 x = -360 + -60
-50 x = -420
/ -50
x= 8.4 mph
