Darius drove home from Logan to southern Texas over two days. Due to the weather, his average speed the first day was 5 mph slower than it was on the second day. He drove for 13 hours the first day and 12 hours on the second day traveling the same distance each day. How far is it from Logan to Darius’ home town?
First day speed = x
second day speed =y
y-x=5
y=x+5....................(1)
distance same on both days
d=rt
13x=12y
substitute y
13x=12(x+5)
13x=12x+60
13x-12x=60
x=60
y=x+5=>65
Total distance= 13x+12y
13*60+12*65=1560miles
