Multiply what's inside the brackets:
6x + 12x - 8 = 6x + 2
18x - 8 = 6x + 2
Subtract 6x from both sides:
18x - 6x - 8 = 2
Add 8 to both sides:
12x = 2 + 8
12x = 10
x = 10/12
x = 5/6
:
Check by substituting 5/6 for x in the original equation:
6x + 4(3x – 2) = 6x + 2
6(5/6) + 4(3(5/6) - 2) = 6(5/6) + 2
Cancel into the denominators:
