Question 866048: Hi, can someone please help me out on this? Thanks a lot!
A tree grew at a 3° slant from the vertical. At a point 60 feet from the tree, the angle of elevation to the top of the tree is 14°. Find the height of the tree to the nearest tenth of a foot.
Thanks again.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! A tree grew at a 3° slant from the vertical. At a point 60 feet from the tree, the angle of elevation to the top of the tree is 14°. Find the height of the tree to the nearest tenth of a foot.
-----
Draw the picture.
You have a triangle with base angle at the tree = 87 degrees
base of the triangle = 60
angle opposite the tree is 14 degrees.
--------------------------------
Angle at the top of the tree = 180-(14+87) = 79 degrees
-----
Use the Law of Sines to get::
h/sin(14) = 60/sin(79)
height of the tree = sin(14)[60/sin(79)] = 14.79 ft
--------------------------
