Start with the graph of y = |x| in green

Then vertically stretch it by a factor of 2 (ie make twice as tall) to get the graph in blue. The blue graph is the equation of y = 2*|x|




-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Reflect that last blue graph over the x axis to get the graph in purple. The purple graph is the equation of y = -2*|x|

Finally, shift the purple graph down 2 units to get the graph in yellow. The yellow graph is the equation of y = -2*|x| - 2
