Let x and y represent the numbers larger and smaller number respectively
x + y = 24 |multiplying thru by 3 to eliminate the y variable by adding the EQs
2x - 3y = 36
5x = 108
x = 108/5 = 21.6 and y = 2.4 21.6+%2B+y+=+24
