x^4+10x^3-7x^2+40x-44
has two real roots and to complex roots. The factors of -44 are possible roots.
1,-1, 4,-4, 11,-11
use synthetic division to find the real roots.
(x-1) (x+11) are the factors and the real roots are -11 and +1
the complex roots are 2i and -2i
(x^2+4)
Once you have found the real roots, the complex roots will be obvious.
