Question 863737: for the equation y-3=3(x+1), what point does the line pass thru? i think it is (-1,3)--also for the same equation , what is the x intercept of the perpendicular line? i came up with x=5. can you check to see if i got them right or where i got off track?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! A line passes through infinite set of points. Your equation is in point-slope form, and it is based on a particular point, (-1,3).
Arrange the equation into slope-intercept form and you can directly read the y intercept but you wanted the x intercept of a perpendicular line. This is ambiguous unless you have more information.
Your current equation is
.
The line perpendicular to it is , and you do not have enough information described for determining b. The y-intercept is (0,b) for this perpendicular line.

From ,

, which is STANDARD FORM, and you can "find" the x-intercept if set y=0 and solve for x, which gives you ; but as stated, you need more information.
