Question 863033: If plane a traveling 120 mph left the same airport as plane b traveling 180 mph at the same time traveling in opposite directions ,how far apart would they be in 9 minutes? I need to know the formula to solve this and the answer please...can you show the work if possible.thank you Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! In 9 minutes, plane A travels *9, or 2*9, or 18 miles [60 minutes in an hour; you're finding how fast it travels in one minute, so mph divided by minutes]
In 9 minutes, plane B travel *9, or 3*9, or 27 miles
How many miles together? (Because they are traveling away from each other, add)
18 + 27 = 45
