I too learned algebra 2 years before I needed it (big brother taught me), however I strongly suggest you not skip the intro or beginning algebra. You'll learn many usefull techniques that will be needed to make advanced algebra much easier. I also suggest if you have the time get an appropriate algebra book or 2 from the school or public library to get exposed to more than 1 approach to solving algebra problems. There are usually 3 to 5 different approached to solving many algebra problems.
Specially the word problems which I have a very usefull suggestion. Whenever possible draw a diagram, sketch, graph etc. & record all vital pieces of information before you begin solving the word problem. Also always, as time allows, do the proof.
