Question 862144: Adult tickets for a play cost $25each and kids are $15 each. The total receipt was $7200 and the attendance was 400. How many kids and and how many adults attended? Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
1 x + 1 y = 400 .............1
Total value
15 x + 25 y = 7,200 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -25
Multiply (2) by 1
-25 x -25 y = -10,000
15 x + 25 y = 7,200
Add the two equations
-10 x = -2,800
/ -10
x = 280
plug value of x in (1)
1 x + 1 y = 400
280 + y = 400
y = 400 -280
y = 120
y = 120
x= 280 number of kids
y= 120 number of adults
