Question 860431: I need to determine if this table represents a direct variation. If it does I need to write the equation. The number of movies ordered 2,3,5,9 and total bill $14.93, $20.42, $31.40, $53.56. How can I tell and how do i write an equation if it is

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Direct variation would be y=kx+b when the totals $14.93, $20.42, $31.40, $53.56 would be y and the x would be the amounts 2,3,5,9. b would be a quantity added to each amount
set them up as coordinates
(2, 14.93),
(3, 20.42),
(5, 31.40),
(9, 53.56)
You could graph them /plot them
or you use algebra to decide if there is a relation y=kx+b
The first two datas points form the line
y = 5.49 x+3.95
the last two form
y = 5.54 x+3.7
the middle two form
y = 5.49 x+3.95
So the first three are on the same line.
