You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Given that 2y = 16x – 3 and 3y+2 = 27x, find the value of x + y
solve first equation for y
y = 8x - 3/2
substitute for y in second equation
3(8x - 3/2) + 2 = 27x
24x - 9/2 + 2 = 27x
3x = -5/2
x = -5/6
substitute for x in first equation
2y = 16(-5/6) -3
2y = -80/6 - 18/6
2y = -98/6
y = -49/6
x + y = -5/6 -49/6 = - 54/6 = -9
