Question 859677: A rowing team rowed 50 miles while going with the current in the same amount of time as it took to row 25 miles going against the current. The rate of the current was 2 miles per hour. Find the rate of the rowing team in still water. Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
Distance against current 25
Distance with current 50
Time = same equate the time against with time with current
t=d/r
25 /(x- 2 )= 50 /(x+ 2 )
25 *(x+ 2 )= 50 *(x- 2 )
25 x + 50 = 50 x -100
25 x -50 x = -100 + -50
-25 x = -150
/ -25
x= 6 mph
