Question 856933: 1.Trains A and B are travelling on the same rotue heading towards the same destination.Train B has already covered a distance of 220km before the train 'A' started.
2.The two trains meet each other after 11 hours after start of train 'A'
3.Had the trains been travelling towards each other (from a distance of 220 km)
they would have meet after one hour/
what is the speed of train A and B in kmph

pls provide solution in detailed

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.Trains A and B are travelling on the same route heading towards the same destination.
Train B has already covered a distance of 220km before the train 'A' started.
2.The two trains meet each other after 11 hours after start of train 'A'
3.Had the trains been travelling towards each other (from a distance of 220 km)
they would have meet after one hour/
what is the speed of train A and B in kmph
:
let a = Train A's speed
let b = Train B's speed
:
When they are going the same direction, their relative speed (a-b)
When they are going toward each other their relative speed is (a+b)
:
Write a distance equation for each scenario; dist = time * speed
1(a + b) = 220
11(a - b) = 220
:
Simplify both equations, divide the 1st by 1, divide the 2nd by 11, you have:
a + b = 220
a - b = 20
----------- addition eliminates b, find a
2a = 240
a = 240/2
a = 120 km/h, the speed of train A
:
Find the speed of train B
120 + b = 220
b = 220 - 120
b = 100 km/h the speed of train B
