After x years, Sam's age will be x + 20, and Carl's age will be x + 6.
At that time, Sam will be twice as old as Carl.
i.e. x+%2B+20+=+2%2A%28x+%2B+6%29
x+%2B+20+=+2%2Ax+%2B+12
Simplifying, x+=+8
After 8 years, Sam will be twice as old as Carl.
Check: After 8 years, Carl's age will be 6+8 = 14 and Sam's age will be 20+8 = 28.
28 is twice 14. Correct!
