You can put this solution on YOUR website!
F = 4S [a father is four times as old as his son]
S-5 = D [his daughter is five years younger than her brother]
F + D + S = 73 [their combined ages amount to 73 years]
.
Substitute the values into the last equation
F + D + S = 73
(4S) + (S-5) + S = 73
Add the Ss
6S - 5 = 73
Add 5 to each side
6S = 78
Divide each side by 6
S = 13
.
Now that you know the son's age, subtract 5 to get the daughter's (8), multiply that value by 4 to get the father's age (4*13=52).
52 + 13 + 8 = 73
