Question 854601: How do I solve this using the elimination method (linear combinations method).
Elimination Method Example:
 Equation 1: 2x-y=4
Equation 2: 2x+5y=16
x will be eliminated
This is the answer I got…

equation 2 – equation 1
2x+5y=16
-) 2x-y=4
       6y=12
        y=12
Substitute y=2 in equation1
               2x-y=4
               2x-2=4
                2x=6
                 x=3
Answer: x=3, y=2 or (3, 2)
Am I right or wrong… explain.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! How do I solve this using the elimination method (linear combinations method).
Elimination Method Example:
 Equation 1: 2x-y=4
Equation 2: 2x+5y=16
x will be eliminated
This is the answer I got…

equation 2 – equation 1
2x+5y=16
-) 2x-y=4
       6y=12
        y=12
Substitute y=2 in equation1
               2x-y=4
               2x-2=4
                2x=6
                 x=3
Answer: x=3, y=2 or (3, 2)
Am I right or wrong… explain.
==============
check your answers by subbing them into the equations.
 Equation 1: 2x-y=4
2*3 - 2 = 4?
6 - 2 = 4  fits
-----------
Equation 2: 2x+5y=16
2*3 + 5*2 = 16 also fits, so it's correct.
