Let x represent How long it would take for lance to mow the yard himself 

 1%2F8+%2B+1%2Fx+=+1%2F3+          |Multiplying thru by 24x so as all denominators = 1

 3x + 24 = 8x

      24 = 5x

      24/5 = x = 4.8 hr, time it would take for lance to mow the yard himself
