Question 851997: A trapezoid has a perimeter of 117 cm. The two shortest sides have the same length. The third side is 12 cm longer than one short side. The final side is 9 cm less than three times one short side. How long is each side of the trapezoid?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = length of each shortest side;
x+12 = another side;
-9+3x = the last side.

Perimeter, 2x%2B%28x%2B12%29%2B%283x-9%29=117
6x+3=117
6x=114
x=19

Knowing x allows you to compute the other two sides.

Note that a trapezoid has four sides. This is why I showed "2x" immediately in the perimeter equation, skipping the separate, "x+x".
