You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A plane is headed at 270° at a speed of 450MPH. But there is 50MPH wind coming from a bearing of 170°.
----
x-coordinate: 450cos(270)+50*cos(170) = 450*0-49.24 = -49.24
y-coordinate: 450sin(270)+50sin(170) = -450+8.68 = -441.32
--------
a. What is the actual speed of the plane?
speed = sqrt[49.24^2 + 441.32) = 444.056 mph
--------------------------------------------------
b. What is the bearing of the plane's flight?
bearing = arctan(441.32/49.24) = 83.62+180 = 263.62 degrees
--------------------------------------------------
