You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Cross-multiply:
4(x - 2) = 3(x + 1)
Distribute:
4x - 8 = 3x + 3
Get variables to one side and constants to the other:
4x - 3x = 3 + 8 [subtract 3x from both sides and add 8 to both sides]
Simplify:
x = 11 [potentially]
Check for extraneous solutions [denominaotrs can't = 0]:
x + 1 = 11 + 1 = 12 ; this is not = 0
x - 2 = 11 - 2 = 9 ; this is not = 0
x = 11 is a valid solution
