You are trying to show 35=3%2A%288.5%29%2B%28root%283%2Ca%29%2B169%29 according to what you wrote.

First, isolate the root(3,a).
35=3%288.5%29%2Broot%283%2Ca%29%2B169
root%283%2Ca%29=35-3%288.5%29-169, the parentheses not having any effect.
root%283%2Ca%29=-159.5
This is the same as -root%283%2Ca%29=159.5; and the result would be irrational.
