Let x and y represent the numbers  x - y = 6    0r y = %28x-6%29

Question states***

 x(x-6) = 112

 x^2-6x - 112 = 0

(x-14)(x+8) = 0

  (x-14)= 0,  x = 14, y = 8 and 14+8 = 22

0r(x+8) = 0,  x = -8, y = -14  and -8 + (-14) = -22
