Question 84786: I have real troubles with these. Please help.
Graph the inequality.
x < –2
Answer by bucky(2189) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Look at this as the equation x = -2. You may recognize the graph of this equation as a
vertical line through the point -2 on the x-axis. No matter what the value of y is at a point
on this line, the corresponding value of x in that point is -2.
.
But you were asked to find the point or points where x is less than -2. Notice that any
point you select that is to the left of the graphed line has an x value of less than -2.
.
Therefore, shade in the entire region to the left of the graph. Do not include the graphed line
in this shading, because the graphed line contains points whose x value equals -2 but is
not less than minus 2.
.
Now you can say that any point in the shaded area on this graph has an x value that is
less than -2. So the shaded area contains all the points that satisfy the given inequality.
.
Hope this helps.
