Question 847582: Frank bought 2 shirts and 1 pair of slacks for a total of $55. If he had bought 1 shirt and 2 pairs of slacks, he would have paid $68. What was the price of each shirt and each pair of slacks?
I tried:
2s+1p=$55
1s+2s=$68
the answer was totally off.
not sure how to set this one up
Hi,
I. 2s+1p=$55
II. 1s+2=$68 |Note used variable s rather than p
2s+1p=$55
-2s - 4p = -$136 |Multiplying EQ II thru by -2 and adding to the 1st to eliminate s (68*(-2) = -136)
-3p = - $81,
p = $27, the cost of the slacks s = $14,cost of a shirt
