Question 84638: I was helping my daughter with her homework. I was trying to find out how to remember what method was used in determining when a fraction is bigger or smaller than another fraction. Example: is 6/8 greater or smaller than 3/4. I know how to divide 3 divided by four, turn into a decimal than a percent and compare the greater number. But I thought their was an easier way in determining how to tell if a fraction was bigger or smaller than another fraction.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if you multiply the numerator (top) of one fraction by the denominator (bottom) of the other fraction, and vice versa, the one with the largest resulting numerator is the largest fraction

this is essentially converting to a common denominator, without actually finding the denominator
