You can put this solution on YOUR website!
sam and mark have the same money .
sam buys 4 sweets and has 5p left over.
mark buys 2 sweets and has 11p left over
form an equation where s stands for the price of sweets and how much money sam had at the start to spend
--------
Equations:
Start: S = M
S-4s = 5p
M-2s = 11p
-------
Substitute for S and for M::
4s+5p = 2s+11p
2s = 6p
======
Sam at start::
S = 2(2s) + 5p
S = 2(6p)+5p
S = 17p (amt Sam had at the start).

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Sam spent +4s+%2B+5+ p
Mark spent +2s+%2B+11+ p
They have the same amount of money, so
+4s+%2B+5+=+2s+%2B+11+
+2s+=+6+
+s+=+3+
The price is 3 p / 1 sweet and
Same had
+4s+%2B+5+=+4%2A3+%2B+5+
+4%2A3+%2B+5+=+17+ p to start with
