Question 843129: If 10 people take 1 hour to complete the construction of a wall then how many people are required complete the same wall in 450 seconds?
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! the amount of time to construct the wall is equal to 3600 seconds.
this is because 3600 seconds is equivalent to one hour.
if 10 people worked on the wall, then each person completed 1/10th of the wall in one hour, assuming that they all worked at exactly the same rate.
the formula to use is RT = Q
R = the rate of the 10 people working together.
RT = Q becomes R*3600 = 1
R = 1/3600
since 10 people worked at that rate, then the combined rate is really equal to 10/3600.
divide that by 10 to get the contibution of each person and you get that each person worked at the rate of 1/36000 of the wall in one second.
now we want to determine how many people are required to complete the wall in 450 seconds.
the same formula is used.
RT = 1
T becomes 450 seconds.
we get R * 450 seconds = 1
since the rate that one person works is 1/36000, then the rate that x people work is x/36000.
the formula becomes:
RT = Q becomes:
x/36000 * 450 = 1
we multiply both sides of this equation by 36000 and divide both sides of this equation by 450 to get:
x = 36000 / 450 which is equal to 80.
it would require 80 people, all working at the same rate, to construct the wall in 450 seconds.
